Pokemon Go
Augmented Reality
Pokemon Go is a free-to-play, location-based augmented reality (AR) game. It grew to massive success at its July 2016 launch, reaching the #1 spot in app stores for both Android and iOS. The game did run in to issues early in its release due to the popularity of the app as it rolled out to more countries. The game's characters are based on the popular children TV series Pokemon. Other Pokemon games are available on Nintendo devices, like the Nintendo 3DS. The aim of Pokemon Go puts the focus on your current location. By moving around in real-time, you are able to find nearby wild Pokemon that you can then capture. Special icons on the map show areas of interest for Pokemon Go players: PokeStops and gyms. PokeStops allow you to gain items, such as potions, berries and PokeBalls. You can also get eggs that when incubated can hatch in to a Pokemon. Eggs need you to walk a certain distance to hatch, ranging from 1–10 kilometers (0.62–6.2 miles). Pokemon Gyms are not like gyms from more traditional Pokemon games. Instead, you represent one of three teams - Valor, Mystic, and Instinct - which can then own the gym. While you have a Pokemon in your team's gym, it can earn rewards to make your Pokemon stronger. Defeating an opposing team gym's leader allows you to take over that gym for your team. More features and new Pokemon are added in regular updates. Pokemon trading, player vs. player battles, and Pokemon Centers are currently in development. Niantic has not provided any specific dates on when these will be released.

WhatsApp
Communication
WhatsApp is a simple, free-to-use communications app to send messages to other WhatsApp users. You can send simple text messages, images, video, documents, and make calls. You can start conversations with one person, or create and join group conversations. WhatsApp can use your internet connection instead, helping you reduce your mobile bill. WhatsApp began in 2009 as an idea between Brian Acton and Jan Koum, former employees of Yahoo. Around the time the App Store became a feature on iPhones, Acton and Koum saw the potential apps could have. After buying an iPhone, the pair began working on WhatsApp - a portmanteau of sorts putting "what's up?" and "app" together in one word. WhatsApp shot to success and was bought by Facebook for about $19.3 billion US dollars in 2014. WhatsApp is popular among smartphone users, with over 1 billion people worldwide using the app. This makes WhatsApp the most popular messaging application app in the world. A former popular messaging app, MSN Messenger, only had around 330 million users. One of the main elements to the app that attracts users is the security. WhatsApp maintains a strong, end-to-end encryption of all messages and calls. This means that only the people you chat or speak with will see it. Such encryptions also means the team at WhatsApp can't access your information. To get started, users need to enter in their mobile phone number. This acts as your unique ID on the service. Friends and family that also use WhatsApp can be added to your contact list, if you allow WhatsApp to read your phone contacts. From there, choose the person you want to start a conversation with and start messaging! Whether it's texting a college friend to organize a study group, sending funny GIFs to your friends, or calling family, WhatsApp can do all that, and more.

Facebook
Communication
Facebook started as an online directory of Harvard College students in 2004. As popularity grew, the site expanded to other colleges and Ivy League schools across the US. On September 26, 2006, Facebook allowed anyone to join the social media network. The only requirements were to have a valid email address and be at least 13 years old. Some countries, however, do not allow access to the service. Since the access was open to everyone, Facebook has grown to have 1.86 billion active users each month. It is due to this that Facebook has grown to be the third most popular website in the world, behind YouTube and Google Search. Facebook allows users to post status messages, images, video and links to friends and groups. Each piece of content you publish can be shared with one or more people. You can control who sees your updates The News Feed feature is the main staple of Facebook. This allows you to view content highlights from friends, groups and pages you follow. Algorithms determine what content shows in the feed, much to the frustration of users. Facebook later provided options to allow you to fine tune your personalized feed, by notifying what you want to see more or less of. Another popular element to Facebook is the Like button. It was extended to include several other expressive notions to content. Such options besides Like includes, but is not limited to, Love, Sad, Wow, and Haha (funny). While rumors spread often, Facebook is a free to use service. The rumors were exacerbated further when chain letter posts were shared by thousands of users. The company provides advertising services to businesses to monetize the free service. Effective targeting methods to Facebook users that are interested in the content is one such method. Other services include sending gifts, buying virtual currency for games, or the marketplace.

Gmail is both a free email service and an email client for mobile. It is developed by Google, who operates the Gmail service. The app helps manage emails in to specific category types, to make sorting email easier. Gmail has the usual email client affair. Send and receive emails, attachments with ease. Threaded conversations to keep emails in check. Attachment support to send documents and files to colleagues and friends. Gmail handles email well, but it does it really well. Based on the content of the email, it can determine the type of email you have received and move it to a categorized inbox. For example, you might get an email from your favorite clothing store about a sale. When Gmail scans the email, it can determine the email is a promotion, and tag it as such. Other categories include Social (Media), Updates, and Forums. This makes it easier to sort your emails and reduce the noise. Who knows - it could help you reach that infamous Inbox Zero (a.k.a. have no emails in your inbox). Gmail is a popular client, with many people using it on their mobile. It was the first app on the Android app store to reach 1 billion installs.

Google Chrome is a free web browser developed by Google. It was released in 2008 and quickly became a popular choice. Based on figures from StatCounter, as of February 2017 it is estimated that Chrome has a 62% worldwide usage share. It is praised for its speed and simple interface design. Chrome was built on WebKit, a browser technology that is primarily developed by Apple for its flagship browser, Safari. It is developed as an open source product, making it free for others to use and modify. It wasn't until several years later that Google opted to fork a version of WebKit - making another copy of the technology. They then modified the renderer component from WebKit, which they refer to as Blink. Since Chrome version 28, Blink has replaced WebCore from WebKit as the browser's renderer. The renderer is what determines how a web page looks, which can have minor differences between browser vendors. The Opera browser has also come on board with Blink, using it as the browser's renderer since version 15. In prior versions, Opera used a proprietary renderer. Like other browsers, Chrome allows you to view web pages from your mobile device with ease. Like its desktop counterpart, the mobile version has support for tabbed windows. Many of the benefits are also universal, such as the speed and rich feature support. Google Chrome is a free browser for mobile devices and tablets. It receives regular updates from Google to keep your browsing experience safe and enjoyable.
